Jeanne on trial

If you know anything about Charles Jeanne (beyond the “real life Enjolras” thing), you probably know that he admitted his involvement at the barricades publicly, unlike the others who went with the “deny everything” defence. This is what made him famous: bravery and honestly in the face of persecution! And all that.

So I’m now going to talk way too much about this trial. Specifically about what Jeanne was up to.

I’m dividing this up by themes which are:

1. Jeanne being snarky, sarcastic or passive-aggressive

2. Jeanne defending the insurgents

3. Jeanne on morality and bravery and whatnot

4. Jeanne being defended by others

5. Jeanne getting what he wants

6. The last audience

(… don’t judge my titles.)

But before I start, I obviously have to mention that some of the best stuff has already been translated:

Also a few notes/reminders:
1. Maître Marie is Jeanne’s lawyer.
2. Rossignol is a fellow insurgent and accused like Jeanne
3. Simon was an insurgent but became a turncoat.
4. My French still kinda sucks and I’m still way too clueless about this historical era. There will be mistakes and misunderstandings and other things beginning with “mis”.
5. I always welcome corrections if you notice those mistakes.
6. This is by no means a full account of everything Jeanne does during the trial, this is just what I picked out based on how interesting it was in my opinion and, to be honest, mostly whether I felt like I could translate it accurately enough or not.
